Types Of Bee Nests
A bee nest is also called as beehive by some people. But, there is a slight difference in both of them. Hive is a man-made structure to keep honeybee nest wherein the bee nest is naturally made by bees and are hanging and exposed. Western honeybees and Eastern honeybees are the main species for honey production and are mainly kept by beekeepers for honey production.
Nest Identification
Natural nests are made on hollow trees, rock cavities, and sometimes cave and in warmer climates. They make exposed nests by hanging it on a tree. One nest may have multiple honeycombs with space and relatively parallel to each other. Nest structure of all honeybees is similar- they use the upper part to store honey, lowest part for the queen, and the mid part of the nest to store pollen, worker-brood cells, and drone-brood cells.

Ground Bee And Honeycomb Bee nests
Ground bees nests look like ant nest but they are slightly bigger in size than ant nest. Bee’s species like polyester bees make underground nests and have mounds. These bees are not harmful and don’t sting when disturbed. Female ground bees make their nest nearby only and they show up every year.
Honeycomb bee nests make their nest with the wax produced from their abdomen and make nests in hollowed trees. They like to make nests in homemade bee boxes, man-made structures, or inside trees. They hardly make their nest in an exposed location like a hanging branch.
Confusion Between Bee Nests And Wasp Nests
Wasp and bees both are different in all possible ways. Wasps have smooth bodies and legs wherein bees have hairy bodies and legs. Similarly, their nests are also different, like bees build their nests in tree cavities like a hollow tree, attics, or wall voids and wasps create a nest with paper-like substance from wood pulp.
Both of the nests are beneficial for the ecosystem in different ways. Wasp nest acts as natural pest control and target on flies, and caterpillars by controlling the population of crop slaying insects. Bees are known for their pollination activities and collect most of the pollen required by most fruits and vegetables.
Bee Nest Can be Dangerous
If not taken care of, these bees nest can be dangerous as they can grow bigger and the chances of developing swarm are more, which can harm the business and property. They can be harmful if they feel any kind of threat to their nest and their stings can be dangerous and infectious to pets and people who are allergic to bees.
